So far we have described totipotent and pluripotent stem cells that can be obtained from embryos or abortuses, but there are multipotent stem cells also, found in children and adults. These stem cells are more specialized (differentiated) pluripotent stem cells. For example, a specific type of multipotent stem cell called mesenchymal stem cell has been shown to produce bone, muscle, cartilage, fat and other connective tissues.
